India added 11 GW of utility-scale solar capacity in 2022: Study

Solar energy contributed for 52 per cent share in the total renewable energy. New Delhi: From January 2022 till December 2022, 13,956 MW solar capacity and 1,847 MW of wind capacity was added in India, which was about 17.5 per cent and 26.6 per cent, respectively, higher compared to 2021,according to a recent analysis.

In terms of cumulative installations, according to the data released by the Mini stry of New and Renewable Energy till December 2022, India’s green energy capacity reached 120.85 GW, said JMK Research in its study on Friday.

It added that solar energy contributed for 52 per cent share in the total renewable energy segment, making it the major contributor followed by wind energy with ble energy segment, making it the major contributor followed by wind energy with 35 per cent, bio power with 9 per cent, and small hydro with 4 per cent share.

Utility-scale solar power, which has been generating clean electricity with stable prices for decades, can be developed to balance environmental protection with energy demands and climate goals. Policies to accelerate growth can create jobs and diversify India's energy portfolio, while reducing carbon emissions and paving the way for a clean energy future.
